10/14-10/18 Week in Review
Hello Friends,
Word of the week: Initiative
This week, we focused on the concept of initiative—what it means to take action and why it’s so important. In Place Corps, there are countless opportunities to show initiative, whether it’s volunteering to clear the table after meals or stepping up to tackle projects in the woodshop. We explored how this quality fosters personal growth and creates lasting impressions, often leading to success and memorable experiences.
Our Table Talk guest, Naimah Muhammad, shared her personal journey, offering powerful insights into how initiative has shaped her life. As a psychotherapist at Miller and Bailey Middle School, and through her private practice, Naimah highlighted the role of self-care in sustaining her work. She also reflected on her wide-ranging contributions as an alderwoman, social worker, community leader, and member of a police task force. Her story underscored how stepping forward can create meaningful change.
You can listen to Naimah’s interview on Radio Kingston here.
As we continue our journey together, let’s look for more opportunities to take initiative in our work and community life!
Have a good weekend,
Place Corps Team
