Setting Sail!

We began this week at the Kingston YMCA to begin our morning with personal praxis. This was the first of many opportunities to take advantage of our free Y access as members of the Place Corps community.  For lunch we stopped by Calcutta Kitchen to enjoy some Indian food, then convened as a complete Place Corps Team; fellows, staff, and all, at D.R.A.W. Kingston's new Neighborhood Printshop. Here we met Aurora and Cosmic Dog Press, where we will be learning about printing making, zine culture, and how art can be utilized for many different purposes.

On Tuesday we volunteered at People's Place, sorting clothes in the back rooms and getting a peak behind the scenes of an incredibly active and robust center of community. We had lunch at Tilda's, People's Place's free kitchen offering fresh, hot meals, daily. In the afternoon we went on a tour of local banks and wandered into a seemingly endless consignment shop. We visited a national bank and a local credit union. Some fellows do not have their own bank accounts just yet so it will be important choose one and make an account ASAP!

Wednesday we met at Hudson River Maritime Museum where we spent the day sailing on the Hudson, visiting the lighthouse, and learning more about the maritime history of our region. It was a beautiful, cool day, with a breeze and a bright sun and it was just right for the very last day of summer. We ended the week with our first workshop with KaN landscape where met Korinne and learned about the project we will be working on in the coming months. In the afternoon we came to CPW and their stunning new building, where we met the CPW team and learned about the exciting photography workshops in our future.
