Homecoming 🏡 🌈
We began this week by meeting in our homeroom for the first time, and spent the morning introducing the space, reintroducing each other, KNOW trimester, and program policy. Fellows received their laptops and Place Corps emails! In the afternoon we headed to the Mid Hudson Valley Credit Union where we met with Charles and Brian, took a tour of the bank, and had a conversation about financial literacy. We were pleased to find that all fellows had a bank account by Tuesday!
At Hudson River Maritime Museum where we learned about ecology and ecosystems, and spent the rest of the day in their Wooden Boats School learning workshop safety and woodworking basics. Fellows tried their hand with the tools, planing and sawing wood, and its just a matter of time before we are all accomplished boat builders! On Thursday, we spent the morning learning about and discussing womenx reproductive issues and menstruation, and the ways in which society has not paid them proper attention. Fellows shared their own experiences struggling to be heard by doctors when discussing menstrual issues and pain. We also learned about the importance of eating fiber and legumes, and so followed this conversation with...
a chipotle lunch. Then, At CPW fellows practiced taking photos with their new cameras, and have been assigned to take 10 self-portraits before next class! We finished the day with a stop by the YMCA Farm stand and end of the month attendance accounting.
