Celebration & Collaboration <3
It is with full-hearts that we announce our 2023 Kingston Fellows cohort has officially graduated!! It’s hard to believe that our year-long adventure has come to a close, but we are thrilled to see our fellows follow their hearts & pursue their growing interests. 100% of our cohort has secured next step placement in college and vocation work! Our graduation was filled with laughter, tears, hugs, in celebration of the many accomplishments thus far, coupled with excitement for the journeys ahead! <3
Our final month together was action-packed. Our fellows wrapped up their yearlong projects, embarked on summertime adventures, and reflected on the fellowship experience together. Adventures included a trip to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Coney Island, and exploring local hiking spots around Kaaterskill Falls and the Mohonk Preserve.
Fellows completed their 9 month landscape design journey with Kan Landscape with an array of native pollinators to create a welcoming space outside of the Good Work Institute. Our workshops series, Access Kingston, culminated in the install of an accessibility ramp at Kulture restaurant. Our fellows deepened their creative practices with artist Jessica Russel, of Art Room Atelier, in a series of arts based workshops which encouraged creative meditations on personal identity.
We were joined by visiting artist, Kelly Kristin Jones, whose photographic work centers interventions in contested public spaces, especially related to public monuments. Our fellows assisted in Jones’ Kingston-based project at Academy Green Park. Fellows assisted her creation of site-specific imagery and wrote signs to express their own feelings about these outdated historical narratives which permeate our public spaces right here in Kingston. We are thrilled to have collaborated on this project which will be exhibited as a part of the “In the Room” exhibition at CPW Kingston from June - August!
We are grateful to all our friends, collaborators, and partners who made this year’s Kingston fellowship a beautiful, joyful experience for our fellows! We are proud to continue creating Kingston-based programming which centers our community and encourages young people to cultivate a calling to know, love, and serve!
