1/27-1/31 Week in Review
Hello Friends,
Word of the week: Cultivate
As we wrapped up the last week of January, we cultivated many things together. In honor of the Lunar New Year, our meals had a delicious Korean influence with beef bulgogi, oi muchim (Korean cucumber salad), and kimchi with rice and lettuce wraps. Bulgogi translates to "fire beef" as it is cooked at a high temperature to achieve a slightly burnt crisp flavor. The colors and flavors were amazing, and we wish you could have been there to experience the incredible aromas.
We headed to the Woodstock School of Art for a Water-Based Monotype and Monoprint Workshop led by the amazing Kate McGlauglin. She provided a detailed and inspiring session in the beautiful space, and creativity was flowing throughout the room.
At the Hudson River Maritime Museum (HRMM), we continued working on our boat, which is starting to take shape. Each step brings us closer to seeing the final product, and the excitement is building!
We ended the week with a Table Talk session featuring guest Lauree Ostrofsky, founder of Hudson Valley Women in Business, a network of over 3,000 women. Lauree shared her deeply personal journey—from following the “right” path in a corporate career to being diagnosed with a brain tumor that reshaped her entire perspective. Her insights were not only inspiring but a reminder of how much power we all have to change our lives. She lives by the slogan, "I'm scared & doing it anyway," and turned them into stickers and magnets that she generously gifted us. You can watch a video of her talk here. Lauree will be returning in the spring for a professional development session with our fellows, and we can’t wait to continue learning from her.
In the afternoon, we held mock interviews for our service study partners in our homeroom. The questions ranged from community involvement to personal challenges, creating a real-life interview setup. We got creative with the space, using the kitchen and back room to keep the interviews separate and private. Some of our partners joined via Zoom, as coordinating nine incredible local organizations in one place can be a challenge. Our goal is to equip our fellows with valuable professional skills and help them find the right fit for their interests.
We are incredibly grateful to our partners for taking time out of their busy schedules to support our fellows in developing such an important skill.
These experiences are all part of cultivating skills, relationships, and opportunities for our fellows.
Here's to another enriching week, and we hope you get to spend some time this weekend cultivating old and new passions!
Have a good weekend,
