9/2-9/6 Week in Review
Hello Friends,
Word of the week: Odyssey
Our fellowship journey began with an unforgettable kickoff at the OIKOS retreat, held at The Watershed Center in Millerton. It was a whirlwind of team bonding, exploration, and meaningful community engagement. Fellows delved into regenerative agriculture with enriching visits to Rocksteady Farm, Wild Seed, and Sky High Farms—three farms with powerful mission statements that left a lasting impact.
The retreat was filled with creative workshops, from blind contour drawings to writing letters of reflection, all set against the stunning backdrop of the pastoral fields and mountains. These experiences helped lay the groundwork for the next nine months of skill building as fellows prepare to root themselves in their urban place in Kingston. The orientation also provided space for the fellows to connect with one another, fostering relationships that will grow throughout the year.
Back in Kingston, our fellows continued their odyssey with community work at Soul Fire Farm., preparing the land for winter by covering raspberries in compost and adding woodchips to the orchard. This hands-on experience deepened their connection to the land. A vibrant O+ mural walk led by Aimee followed, filled with engaging discussions about the history of Kingston and the talented artists behind the neighborhood murals. This tour not only sparked creativity but also began to root our fellows in their new place, seeing the city’s story through a fresh perspective.
The week ended on a high note with a hands-on Intro to Ceramics session at Kingston Ceramics. Under Lex's guidance, fellows tried their hand at wheel throwing and designed custom pieces, sparking excitement for what’s to come in this creative adventure.
As we wrap up this successful week, we invite everyone to embrace the odyssey of the season—whether it’s back-to-school energy or the fresh start of our fellowship cohort. Wishing you all a restful weekend after a week brimming with excitement and inspiration!
Have a good weekend,
