10/27-10/31 Week in Review
Hello Friends,
Word of the week: Play
October wrapped up with a perfect excuse to embrace Play — a Halloween party! We reconnected with our inner child, donning costumes, surrounded by pumpkins, carving jack-o-lanterns, and baking seasonal treats. The festive spirit filled the room as we took a break from the usual routine just to laugh, unwind, and enjoy each other’s company.
Play popped up in all forms this week! We cooked up a batch of “chop cheese” with Lissy — a fellow favorite, filling the kitchen with laughter and delicious aromas. Our Personal Praxis session took us to the YMCA, and at the Hudson River Maritime Museum, we rolled up our sleeves to work with wood, sanding, gluing, clamping, and planing boards that will become part of our future projects. It was hands-on, creative play that sparked ideas for the paths ahead.
On Tuesday, some of us attended Hudsy, Beyond the Screen showing at Woodstock Playhouse, where we had the special opportunity to watch Lennon Bass in a short film, Freshman Again. This touching piece, directed by his son, Aji Bass, chronicled Lenny’s experience of attending Bard College at 50 years old. The film was a beautiful reminder of embracing new chapters with humor, courage, and playfulness.
Our reflections this week brought even more laughter when a fellow asked, “What do we even call you two (Suzi and Ravin)?” Without the typical “teacher” label, we suddenly had a playful job title brainstorm! Suggestions flew: "staff members," "facilitators," "therapists," and even "case managers." Though our official title is "Co-Program Managers," the humor reminded us all that what we share with our fellows goes way beyond a label.
For this week’s icebreaker, Whose Song?, we wrote down the last song we each listened to and guessed whose song was whose as the music played. Some fellows were floored by each other’s playlists, while others were spot-on with their guesses. It was a fun moment of shared discoveries, more laughs, and the pure joy of music.
And don’t forget, daylight savings time ends this weekend! We’re falling back an hour, so enjoy that extra time to play however you like—whether it’s sleeping in, spending time with friends, or diving into a creative project.
Have a good weekend,
Place Corps Team
