❤ September News ❤

We have had a jam packed few weeks at our Kingston Homeroom and have much to share! Highlights from our first month together in Kingston include……

*Going to Forge Project and joining Sky High Farm Fellows for a beeswax and candle making workshop where we learned much more than just dipping candles- we learned how colonization was modeled after bee colonies—hence the language—and how the honey bee that we know in North America is a mash-up of bees originally from Africa and Europe. We also learned how every bee has a role in the hive! We discussed being nature—not apart from it and how our inherited colonist mindset can continue to perpetuate apartness. We reminded one another that we love nature and nature loves us—and that beeswax is pure magic!

*We Ivited Micah Blumenthal as our first guest speaker for our GOOD WORK story share and Seminar Series, where he shared not only his story but inspiration about what mind-fullness means. Thank you Micah!!

*We started using saws, drills, building sawhorses and…we built a table! Soon, with all the handy skills we have been learned during our Design Build Course, our fellows will begin working together to build a Tiny House!

*We worked with Kan Landscape and created sensory maps as a practice of imagining and re-imagining how we perceive the space around us.

*We started Gamifying Kingston with Trusthub! We began the inquiry into how developing modes of virtual reality can spark creative ways to collectively imagine Kingston with the goal to help our community!

*And, we began our Entrepreneurship in the New Economy training with Dr. Mindy Cole! We have been reading “Who Owns the Ice House” and having wonderful, thoughtful discussions.

As we settled into our Kingston Homeroom the past few weeks, we dove into the meanings of the words “practice” & “praxis.” These key words helped guide our weeks and think about how we can deepen a practice, guided by praxis. Each Monday we set aside time for our Personal Praxis which aims to deepen a practice for self-care, with the possibility of going to Kingston Ceramics or the Kingston YMCA!

More exciting news to come! Stay Tuned! <3
