Exploring History & Community πŸ’«

The Autumn leaves are reaching their peak of vibrant orange and yellows here in Kingston which means the fall season is upon us! We celebrated and welcomed the change of season by carving and decorating pumpkins together.

Our fellows have been exploring and examining definitions of history and community. We dove into how these two concepts mingle and relate to one another. We thought about how community & history inform much of our daily lives!

We visited the Reher Center and explored the significance of oral history. Dr. Willa Zhen shared the importance of good listening practices when interviewing people sharing their history and how to acknowledge our own bias when going into an interview. We got a chance to practice interviewing each other and other people we met at the workshop!

We visited Soul Fire Farm in Petersburgh NY. We learned about Silvopasture, the mutually beneficial relationship between trees and animals that graze which is practiced at Soul Fire Farm with goats and fruit trees. We learned about Rotational Grazing, which is both great for the animals and increases soil fertility and in return also gives us better quality food. And finally, we saw how to plant and dry medicinal herbs.

Some sweet photos of our Fellowships Co-Leaders Mark and Ronnette at Soul Fire below!

Back at our Kingston Homeroom, we explored ideas of independence and practiced purpose mapping. We examined key motivating factors in our lives, how they relate to our purpose, and how we can make goals that align with our values.

And, in Design Build we made gorgeous cutting boards out of Maple and Ash! We prepared them with cutting board oil and they have already been used during our weekday lunch!

More news to come! Stay Tuned…..
