Seeding Sustainable Livelihoods 🍁

Dear Friends,

October has come and gone, the night sky blankets us earlier each day, and soon we will be changing our clocks for daylight savings. While we prepare for the “seasonal jet lag” that comes with Fall Back, we are also looking forward. Since receiving our 501(c)3 nonprofit status, we have made many big strides organizationally.

These past months, Place Corps has been working internally to build organizational infrastructure that will be strong yet remain flexible as we evolve and grow. To this measure, we have articulated a strategic plan for our organization that uplifts our values as guiding principals and highlights how our place-based experiential learning programs work to grow more good with home-grown solutions.

Place Corps exists to mend what we believe is a dysfunctional education system that does not prepare youth to meet the changes and challenges of our time. In 2019, we successfully ran our pilot year program as a 10-month residential fellowship with 8 participants at Hawthorne Valley Farm and in 2022 we plan to launch our second fellowship in Kingston, NY with 16 participants.

The purpose of Place Corps programs is to support youth to design and develop sustainable livelihoods for all while serving the needs of their places, to introduce youth to practical skills for radical living, and to train individuals in whole systems design through applied learning for just solutions.

Currently, we are in the process of building our Board of Directors and Advisor's Circle. Over the next five years, Place Corps will grow from one active program to multiple place-specific programs. We are incredibly excited to share our vision and strategic plan that continues to guide our work as we move forward.

Warmly,

The Place Corps Team
