Lissy Darnell (She/her) Lissy attended Bard College where she earned a degree in environmental studies with a focus on food and farming. After college Lissy traveled to Japan to work on organic farms and began her career in the food world, where she explored multiple angles of food production. Over the past ten years she has worked in several professional kitchens across the Hudson Valley and Catskills as well as working on farms in the region. She spent three seasons working as a farm educator at Sprout Creek Farm in Poughkeepsie where she developed a love for experiential education. This interest along with an alignment with Place Corps’ values is what drew her to join the Place Corps team as the regenerative home economics educator, where she will be teaching fellows practical skills to work with the resources around them to make many things, including nutritious meals.
Lissy believes that learning to cook is not only an essential life skill, but a universal connector. She is committed to cultivating a deep connection to the place where she lives and food is one of many ways in which to do this. In her free time Lissy enjoys playing music on her guitar, foraging for wild food, and growing herbs for tea.
